Latin Hub: SCEL Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez. SCEL or IATA SCL is one of the most important airports of South America, home base of the important Lan Airlines. The airport was named after the founder of the Chilean Airforce and was built by 1961 to 1967. It is currently one of the most modern airports in South America and also it has been awarded as one of the best for passengers regionally. In the year 2009 handled more than 9 million passengers making it one of the top South American airports. The airport is served by major European, North American, and Latin American carriers, allowing the airport to be connected nonstop with Europe, North America and many Latin American cities.
